One of the small communities strung along 371 as you head into the North Country, Hackensack is a four-season vacation destination. Despite a population of just over 300, you will find plenty to do in the area year-round. The landmark of our fair town is a seventeen-foot tall statue of Lucette, or Lucette Diana Kensack, Paul Bunyan’s Sweetheart. Whether you are on vacation or just passing through, having your picture taken in front of her statue is a must-do. Lucette stands just behind where the Paul Bunyan Trail, a hiking/biking trail paved over the old railroad and running from Brainerd to Bemidji, passes through Hackensack. Beyond Lucette, are the clear blue waters of beautiful Birch Lake, although, as there are 127 lakes inside 10 miles you’ll have no shortage of lakes to fish. Hackensack is where we do family. Where we do nature. We fish, play games, swim or just straight out be lazy. Your visit is guaranteed to build memories to last a lifetime – or at least until next year!
